Outdoor Education Experience Projects

Enviro Ed Camp 302

University of Regina, Faculty of Education, Preservice Secondary Science Preservice Teachers of the 302 Environmental Education class were treated to a weekend of sustainability at Craik in October 2006 thanks to a SOEEA Outdoor Experience Grant. Linking with the SOEEA Fall Ecotour, this class met in Regina and car pooled to Craik early Saturday morning. We participated in the Ecotour that took advantage of the exciting activities in and around the Craik Sustainable Living Project and the Craik Eco Centre.

After the frivolity and fun of the Ecotour we made our way to Glenn Hymers house, yep - he was brave enough to put us up for the night!! Here we participated in a Wholistic Cooking Workshop run by Sandra Brandt where we learned about how to prepare healthy food while cooking our own dinner and preparing our breakfast for the following day. This was fascinating and a engaging experience. Sunday saw us troop out to Jim Nodge's property to check out his amazing (and sustainable) art work and to participate in a special spirituality workshop in his barn - what an experience!! We then visited the Cool family Elk Farm. This was great and topped off by sampling a variety of elk meat products. The weekend was sensational for providing us with the opportunity to experience many aspects of sustainability and to form a close working group, necessary to achieve group work in the future. Thanks SOEEA for the financial support that made this weekend possible. (submitted by Peta White.)
