Join SCIC as people all over Saskatchewan celebrate International Development Week 2012!

Global Citizen Award Gala - Saskatoon

7:00 p.m. - Cosmo Senior Centre (614 11th St E.)

 

Spend the evening celebrating this year's winners from the Saskatoon area: JoAnn Jaffe and the Committee for Future Generations Youth Walkers.  The night will include food, talks from award winners, entertainment by John Noon and The Seahags and socializing.  Attendance is free.  Doors open at 6:30.  RSVPs encouraged but not mandatory: email Robbi at scic@earthbeat.sk.ca or call (306) 757-4669.

Come out and watch four dynamite emerging poets from Saskatoon perform for seven minutes each about empowering women and girls!  Performances followed by a reading by an established writer.

International Development Week Proclamation, Launch, and Panel Discussion on International Development

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - University of Regina, College West Building

 

Join SCIC, UR International, and other guests and dignitaries as we officially launch IDW in Regina.  All are welcome to what promises to be an engaging and thought provoking event.  Lunch will be provided.

Peter Bregg Presentation - Water for Life: An African Photo Exhibit

1:30pm - University of Regina School of Journalism (Ad Hum Building)

 

Over the past four decades, internationally-renowned photojournalist Peter Bregg has travelled to more than 75 countries and captured some of the world's most compelling stories with his camera.  In October 2009, he traveled throughout Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya documenting WaterCan's development efforts for the purposes of developing Water for Life: An African Photo Exhibit.

Word Up Wednesday, Global Justice Poetry Slam - Regina

Slam at 7:30 p.m. - $5 - Creative City Centre (1843 Hamilton Street)

 

Come out to this high-spirited show-down between some of Regina's finest performance poets. Watch and listen as they rip open global inequality and weave dreams of justice with nothing more than a fistful of fiery words and well-crafted wit! The top word warrior will go home with some serious loot.  Doors open at 7:00

Keynote Speaker - Samantha Nutt, War Child

7:30 p.m. - University of Regina, Education Auditorium (Note: Start time has changed from 7:00)

 

Dr. Samantha Nutt is a medical doctor and the Founder/Executive Director of War Child Canada. For fifteen years, she has been at the frontline of many of the world's major crises - from Iraq to Afghanistan, Somalia to the Congo and Sierra Leone to Darfur. These experiences have given her a unique insight into the brutality of modern conflict - why it begins, what sustains it and what we can and should do to prevent it.  With her uncompromising and powerful advocacy for justice and peace, she has inspired thousands of people across the continent to see global conflict as a problem that can and must be solved.

Global Classrooms in the 306 

 

SCIC will be profiling classrooms around the province that are learning about and taking action on global justice issues.  Short videos will be created about each classroom and distributed during IDW!
