About Last Mountain Lake:
Last Mountain Lake represents the first federally recognized bird sanctuary in North America, and has been recognized as a “Wetland of International Importance” along with 30 other sites in Canada.
Over 280 species of birds have been recorded at Last Mountain Lake during migration. Up to 50,000 cranes, 450,000 geese and several hundred thousand ducks may be observed when migration peaks. Birds travelling through at least 25 different countries, from arctic Canada to Argentina, use Last Mountain Lake's rich habitats. Besides its values as a migratory stopover and a breeding area, Last Mountain Lake provides appropriate habitat for 9 of Canada's 36 species of vulnerable, threatened and endangered birds.

8:45am - Travel to Last Mountain Bird Observatory in Last Mountain Regional Park
9:15am - Discover bird monitoring through bird banding
12:00pm - Picnic Lunch in Picnic shelter of regional park
1:00pm - Geocaching competition and outdoor activities lead by SOEEA
3:30pm - Free Time! (Canoe on the lake, Swim in the pool, Afternoon nap, Yoga, etc)
6:00pm - Supper at Nokomis Restaurant
7:30pm - Head back to Nokomis hotel/bar - Special Announcement of EECOM 2011 Conference
