Ecotours - SOEEA's
Family Event
Ecotours are an
opportunity for our members and friends to be exposed to the diverse
geography, flora and fauna and broad cultures of Saskatchewan. Each
year in September a trip is organized that highlights the unique and
special features of a specific region. The principles of ecotourism are
followed:
- Experience the environment in a responsible
and environmentally sound way.
- Utilize the local resources and endeavor to
contribute to the community in a positive way.
- Respect and include the local residents in
the gathering.
- Allow for the most significant portion of
the experience to be outdoors.
- Attempt to include all the senses as part
of the ecotourism experience.

with Northern Trapper & Fisher, and much more!!

towards all ages and all for an affordable cost!!

2007 Fall Ecotour -
September 7, 8 and 9, 2007
On the weekend
of September 7th to 9th, the SOEEA Ecotour visited the Great Sand Hills
of southwestern Saskatchewan, a little known ecological treasure. One
of the largest remaining areas of native prairie left in the province,
it is home to many endangered and rare species, and species unique to
sand dune ecosystem. The Great Sand Hills have been identified as one
of five Natural Areas of Canadian Significance in Saskatchewan.
Special guests
were Branimir
Gjetvaj (photographer for The Great Sand Hills: A Prairie
Oasis), Eleanor Bowie (Sand Hills District
Commission), tour guide and interpreter Kerry Wrishko,
and cowboy poet Jon Bowie.
