Project WET
SOEEA is pleased to be the new partner for the Canadian Water Resources Association – Saskatchewan Branch (CWRA-SK) in re-implementing and delivering Project WET Saskatchewan workshops in the province.
Project WET is an instructional resource designed by teachers and water resource professionals FOR K-12 classroom teachers, as a companion program to Project WILD. It covers topics such as water chemistry, water quality and human health, climate and weather, water demand management, water conservation, cultural values about water, and how to launch action programs and develop water celebrations and water festivals.
Project WET materials include the 516 page Curriculum and Activity Guide with 91 complete lessons and mini-units as well as the 136 page Canadian Supplement with Canadian photos, climate data and student data collection sheets in metric units. Early Childhood Educators will find specially adapted activities and student copy sheets. Especially relevant to Saskatchewan classrooms is the fact that the program has a cooperative learning base incorporates a variety of learning styles and was field tested in a wide variety of classrooms, including many multi-ethnic and multi-grade classrooms.
Recommended by the Ministry of Education to the Saskatchewan Science Curricula Gr. 1-10 and also for Physics, Biology and Chemistry 20 & 30, Project WET has now been cross-referenced to support the new Middle Years Social Studies curricula. Cross-references to the new Gr. 1-5 Science curricula is planned for this spring and will then be added to the SOEEA website.
