Why Join SOEEA?

The Saskatchewan Outdoor and Environmental Education Association is here to support all people interested in educating themselves and others about the environment and the outdoors. This includes teachers, community members and students! SOEEA makes it possible for members to do activities that they may not have been able to do alone. The association is a great support group to help each member network with others with similar interests, gain professional development in the area of environmental education, and educate and inform about issues dealing with outdoors and the environment. SOEEA is here to help you take action!

Networking

SOEEA works with other groups and organizations that have similar interests and goals. We host conferences, ecotours, and other events which offer opportunities to discuss, debate, and educate about issues that are of common interest.

Professional Development

We offer opportunities for PD including our ecotours and conferences. We have board positions which offer opportunities for leadership and collegiality. These positions in themselves are an excellent way to network with others!

SOEEA also offers monetary assistance to our members (students/teachers/other educators). Members are eligible for funds for individual professional development (take a course/gain certificate) and school/community group assistance (Environmental Action Projects and Outdoor Education Experiences). SOEEA helps teachers enable students to take off campus outdoor experiences and do meaningful action.

Educate and Inform

SOEEA sends out a newsletter called Envisage to all of our members. The newsletter includes reports from member's events and trips, information on SOEEA sponsored events, and environmental networking information. We also have The Bernie Melanson Award which is a prestigious award given to a person who has demonstrated a long term commitment to outdoor and environmental education.

We have online links giving environmental and outdoor educators useful and practical knowledge. Our website offers:

An online Field Trip Guide, giving ideas about how to plan a trip.

An area outlining and promoting Front Country Practices (LEAVE NO TRACE).

A "Links" page which gives useful resources for environmental and outdoor educators (Green Teacher, Climate Change Sask, EECOM, etc.)
